Specialist Profile - Consultant Obstetrician and Gynae-oncologist

Dr. Vijaendreh Subramaniam (Dr. Vijae)

MBBS (University Malaya), MRCOG (UK) Consultant Obstetrician and Gynae-oncologist Specialist in Laparoscopic (keyhole) Surgery Gazetted Gynaecological Oncologist.
Dr. Vijae is an experienced Obstetrician and Gynae-oncologist. He has varied specialist areas, offering a broad range of clinical expertise for gynaecological conditions and cancer care.

He graduated from the University of Malaya in 1986 and joined the Ministry of Health Malaysia. In 1991, he commenced postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) in the United Kingdom. While in UK, he worked as an O&G registrar in the National Health Service at the Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, Scotland. He gained a postgraduate qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in 1993.

He returned to Malaysia in 1994 and worked as the Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department in Sarawak General Hospital, Malaysia. In recognition of his excellence contribution to the healthcare service in Sarawak, he was bestowed the Darjah Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang, by the State Government in 1995.
In 2003 he furthered his sub-speciality training in Gynae - Oncology in the UK. He spent one year working at the St. Bartholomew Hospital (St. Barts), one of Europe's most advanced cancer centres in London, looking after patients with cancers of the vagina, cervix, uterus and ovaries. He acquired further extended training in the management of complex gynaecological cancers and advanced gynaecological surgery.

He is also a trained colposcopist and completed further training in colposcopy during his stint in St Barts.

Trainer and Educator

For almost 25 years he has also been an avid educator and teacher, having trained medical students, specialists in O& G and subspecialists in Gynae-oncology.

Special Interest

Minimally Invasive Surgery (Keyhole surgery)

Dr. Vijae pursued his interest in the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) and later undertook advanced training in MIS in gynaecological cancers at Kurashiki Medical Centre in Japan under the Supervision of world renowned MIS expert Prof. Masaaki Andou. The training covered a wide range of cutting edge surgery in the full range of complex gynaecological surgery and in gynae cancers.

Integrative and holistic approach to cancer treatment

Dr. Vijae is also passionate about nutritional and metabolic therapy for the management of cancer and also a strong advocate of integrative and holistic approach to cancer care.
To ensure his clinical skills are up-to-date, Dr. Vijae regularly attends seminars and is also involved in organising clinical skills workshops for training of other doctors. He has served in the Ministry of Health Malaysia for 27 years in various capacities prior to opening Dr. Vijae’s Gynae and Cancer Centre.
